Safety & health surgery

There is no higher priority at WPD than the safety and health of our staff, contractors and third parties who could be affected by our works. 
 
We aim to continue to achieve this by focussing upon the following areas by:
 
  • Maintaining a safe, healthy and motivated workforce;
  • Continuing to provide suitable safety & health training for our staff;
  • Raising awareness of the dangers of electricity to members of the public;
  • Ensuring we continue to plan, install and maintain our existing assets so that the safety or health of anyone who could be impacted by them is not compromised;
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders and legislators to share safety and health best practice;
  • Ensuring safety is considered in the development and roll out of new technologies;
  • Focussing on our health monitoring programmes and putting in place plans to minimise those areas that impact on our staff;
  • Ensuring we continue to meet our legal obligations to our staff in regard to their health.

Share best practice on safety & health with our stakeholders
Continue to engage and collaborate with national bodies, legislators and other utilities on Safety and Health
Provide training to deal with new equipment and systems
Providing internal and ‘where appropriate’ externally accredited safety, health & competency training for our staff
Ensuring we continue to plan/develop and maintain our networks so that they operate safely and efficiently
Delivering focussed Health surveillance and wellbeing programmes e.g. strategies to address the impact of mental health of staff and families
